The Inspiration Behind ‘Ghost Of Tsushima’ Video Game Adaptation

“Ghost of Tsushima”, a Sony Playstation Game developed by Sucker Punch Productions, made history when it became the fastest selling original Sony game in Playstation history. The game tells the story of the samurai warrior Jin Sakai, the sole survivor of a Mongol attack on his clan.

Set in 1274, Jin’s journey leads him to seek revenge and liberate the island of Tsushima. Until then a film adaptation was announced in March 2021, with director Chad Stahelski and writer Takashi Doscher to be involved.

Stahelski himself is the director of the John Wick franchise, and has now provided numerous updates regarding the fourth installment of the film, “John Wick: Chapter 4”. Stahelski has the perfect backdrop for the martial arts action that the “Ghost of Tsushima” story requires. Additionally, he has noted his enthusiasm for creating faithful adaptations that honor the source material.

In a recent interview with Collider, Stahelski discussed his desire to film the film in Japanese and bring in a native Japanese cast. He also described where the influence for making the film came from.

“This is part of the fantasy period,” he said. “This is done in honor of Akira Kurosawa, who is probably in the top five biggest influences in my life as far as the film goes.”

Video game adaptations can be a sensitive topic for fans. What else for the game “Ghost of Tsushima”. With its huge success, “Ghost of Tsushima” is considered an intimidating project for any director to take on.

“This is an opportunity to drive technology and people in a timeless story.” “This is your typical mythological tale of good versus evil, finding a man, seeing him change the world or the world changing him.”

Not much is currently known about the adaptation. What is clear, however, is that fans can expect something promising given Stahelski’s attention to detail and enthusiasm for faithfully adapting source material.
